CISB Director Invited to Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Mexico
On May 26, 2016, Dr. Andrea Grove, CISB Director, spoke about the formation and work of the CISB at a conference held by the Economics and International Relations Faculty at UABC, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California. She served on a panel where others talked about the collaboration among faculty, students, and government agencies in northern Baja to promote entrepreneurship among the poor. After the presentations, the group visited local a local business that was started with help from UABC. We plan to work with UABC to establish a Yunus institute such as the CISB.
Social Business student participates as staff intern in Social Entrepreneurship Camp at UCLA
In June 2016, CI Social Business student Frances Klingenberger worked as an intern with social enterprise My Name My Story to help run the Social Entrepreneurship Summer Camp the company holds in collaboration with UCLA. At the camp, high school students learn the core concepts of social entrepreneurship and changemaking. Of her experience, Frances said, “MNMS is a great organization filled with passionate people who really want to make a difference in the world… From day one, I have been able to enhance my skills that I have gained through CI as well as challenge myself in new ways, such as working with high school students and exploring the world of social impact assessment. I have nothing but positive feedback about the work MNMS is doing and the people who make up the team.” The CISB plans to work with MNMS towards a social entrepreneurship camp for Ventura County high school students.
The CISB and CI's International Relations Club hosted an event, Be the Change, on April 30, 2015, to raise awareness about business models can promote social good. A panel featured CEOs and other representatives of local, national, and international businesses and B corporations, such as Patagonia, Wholly Hemp, Sskeo Designs and others. Attendees learned how their consumer choices can help them to Be the Change
CISB gets visit from Muhammad Yunus, opens collaborative space
